From The Director

Jonathan Sherin

Our Department declares loudly, “None of us are well until all of us are well.”

The importance of our work is amplified when our communities face unpredictable, unprecedented and painful challenges. The trauma of racial injustice and the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) impact each person’s mental wellbeing in different ways.

We stand in solidarity with those who are protesting against the continued killing of Black people and the systems and attitudes, like implicit biases, which actively and passively enable such atrocities. In alignment with these values, we have also expanded our online resources to include robust information on Race, Racial Equity and Civil Unrest.

My recent op-ed in the Los Angeles Times outlines other efforts the Department is leading in response to COVID-19 and what resources are available to help. We have also created a new set of guides in multiple languages on how to navigate the effects of COVID-19, and partnered with leading meditation app Headspace to make subscriptions free to all LA County residents through the end of the year.

Learn more about our mission at DMH to provide hope, recovery and wellbeing for everyone in Los Angeles County and beyond.
