Hands Together in Heart Shape

Service Area 8 understands the impact of historic traumas experienced by Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities on mental health and well-being. In addition, the pandemic and the rise in hate-crimes targeting AAPI triggered increased depression and anxiety, calling upon the need for mental health education that can be informative as well as healing for the AAPI community.

Dr. Derek Hsieh from Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH)’s Long Beach Asian Pacific Islander Family Mental Health Clinic, spoke about these historic traumas and mental health needs of AAPI and also provided a presentation for the Mental Health Speaker Series titled “The Happiness Cocktail and Other Practices for Well-being.” Service Area 8 invites you to view the video presentations and learn about the importance of mental health and practices for your well-being.

LACDMH supports the well-being of our County residents and communities. For mental health referrals, support, and referrals, the LACDMH’s Help Line is available 24/7 at (800) 854-7771.

The Service Area 8 administration office is available Monday – Friday from 8 am to 5 pm at (562) 256-7717 for assistance with linkage to services.
