Welcome to the Progress Note Interactive Training Module Webpage
The Progress Note Interactive Training Module offers training to develop practitioners’ conceptual understanding of writing Progress Notes. It is most helpful to use with practitioners who already have a basic understanding of State required data elements and content (as outlined in the Organizational Provider’s Manual) as well as standard clinical elements of a Progress Note. The trainings offered in the module focus on developing understanding of how the different parts of the note are interrelated, as well as how each sentence serves a purpose in the note. (Other trainings are in the process of being developed.)
The current version of the Training Module requires some navigation within an EXCEL file and may take a bit of practice for some. Individuals who participated in a pilot study of the Module found it helpful in writing better notes, but also requested an easier to use platform. That upgrade is in progress and anticipated to be available within the next year.
Before using the Interactive Progress Note Training Module, please first view the introductory video presented below. This video will provide you with an overview of how to use the Training Module, and what to expect.

Please note the following important points:
- If you encounter an error message when downloading, this may be because your organization’s IT system is rejecting the file due to it containing “macros”— instructions that run the training module. If this occurs, please contact your organization’s IT team to allow the download despite “macros”.
- Once you download the Interactive Training Module, you must first save the file before you use the Interactive Training Module. It will not work unless you first save the file to your computer.
- When you open the Interactive Training Module, you may be asked on the top of the screen to “Enable Content”. You will need to click on the “Enable Content” button, if it appears.
- Once you open the Interactive Training Module, you will notice that there are several Sheet Tabs at the bottom of the EXCEL workbook with different names. Unfortunately, those Sheets must be visible in order for the module to run, and you should not click on the tabs. There are buttons that you are asked to click on to move through the training module.
