From The Director
As our community continues to navigate challenges related to COVID-19, evolving restrictions and guidelines, vaccine distribution and the long overdue racial reckoning, it is particularly important to care for your mental wellbeing and that of those around you. As Kobe Bryant said, “Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is an opportunity…to rise.”
Last year, LACDMH launched the free LA County Wellbeing Line and Chat, designed specifically for County employees and frontline workers. Confidential emotional support by trained listeners and wellbeing resource referrals are available now for any County employee struggling with grief, stress or just looking for more balance in life.
Call (833) 307-0509 or Chat at Wellbeing4LA.org/get-support – offered 7 days a week. We encourage you to take advantage of this exclusive resource and spread the word to co-workers.
Also, our LACDMH web resources are “always on,” from resources and guides related to COVID-19 and racial equity to support for veterans, plus an ever-growing collection of resources organized by topic. And our partnership with leading meditation app Headspace makes subscriptions free to all LA County residents.
I remain committed and excited about the opportunities for healing and mental health equity ahead. My recent op-ed co-authored with State Senator Howard Stern in the Los Angeles Times outlines opportunities for major reform and improvement in the way that we care for the most vulnerable among us.
We forge ahead with heart, grit, compassion and new insights – committed to creating a more fully connected County that supports the wellbeing of everyone.
