Healthcare Information Data EXchange (HIDEX)

The Healthcare Information Data EXchange (HIDEX) is LA County Department of Mental Health’s integrated platform for electronic health information exchange. HIDEX provides secure, standards-based FHIR R4 REST APIs that enable Contract Providers, patients, and partner organizations to exchange mental health data with DMH systems.

All HIDEX APIs use OAuth2 authentication and conform to FHIR R4 (4.0.1) specifications.

Getting Started

To begin using HIDEX APIs:

  1. Contact DMH IT – Contact DMH CIOB Help Desk via Heat Self Service Portal or call 213 351-1335.
  2. Receive Credentials – DMH will provision:
    • Client ID and Client Secret
    • Tenant ID
    • Program ID(s) for your authorized programs
    • Subscription Key (if using APIM gateway)
  3. Review Documentation – Download companion guides for your specific API workflow
  4. Test Integration – Use TEST environment to build and validate your integration
  5. Certify in QA – Complete validation checklist in QA environment
  6. Go Live – Receive production credentials and begin operations

Provider Access API

Enables Contract Providers to submit client data, referrals, and assessments to DMH systems.

Client Services (CS) Workflow

Submit client admissions, demographics, episodes of care, diagnoses, financial eligibility, and assessments (CSI, UMDAP).

EPSDT (CANS) Workflow

Submit CANS-IP and PSC-35 assessments for early and periodic screening, diagnostic, and treatment services. Includes automatic Level of Care calculation for CANS assessments.

Service Request Log / SRTS Workflow

Submit referrals, dispositions, screening questionnaires, and BHSA (Behavioral Health Services Act) program enrollment data to the Service Request Tracking System.
