PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program

LACDMH’s Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY2) Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency is a one-year training program dedicated to honing Pharmacy Residents’ psychopharmacology expertise, practice of evidence-based medicine, provision of whole-person care, and readiness to join a multidisciplinary workforce that continues to improve care for Los Angeles County’s most vulnerable individuals and communities.

Residency Structure

Duration: 12 months
Position: 1

Rotation Blocks
    Orientation (2 – 6 weeks)
    Core Rotations (4 – 6 weeks each)
        – Four (4) – Five (5) Ambulatory Care Psychiatry Blocks
        – One (1) Inpatient Psychiatry Block
    Two (2) Elective Rotations (4 – 6 weeks each)
    Longitudinal Experiences

As pharmacy residents rotate through our practice sites, they will engage with a variety of underserved populations across Los Angeles County.

    • Street / Field-Based Psychiatry
Applicant Eligibility

Please review the following criteria carefully to ensure you meet eligibility

    • Apply through ASHP PhORCAS
    • Be a US Citizen or US Resident
    • Possess a PharmD Degree
    • Possess a California RPh License by March 7, 2025
      • To meet this deadline, applicants without a California RPh license are highly encouraged to submit their Pharmacist Examination for Licensure Application to the California State Board of Pharmacy as soon as possible, no later than December 1, 2024, to sit for the earliest available CPJE test date in 2025.
    • Successfully complete an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency by June 30, 2025

Meet Our Pharmacy Residency Program Director

Dr. Alison T. Tang, PharmD, APh, BCPP serves as the Residency Program Director for the LACDMH PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Pacific’s Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy. Dr. Tang completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Navy Medical Center San Diego, Balboa, and her PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency at VA San Diego. Before practicing as a clinical psychiatric pharmacist at LACDMH in the ambulatory care psychiatry setting, Dr. Tang worked at VA San Diego in their adult inpatient psychiatric unit, geriatric unit, and substance use disorder treatment program.
