Anh Tran

Program Manager

Anh Tran is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and currently a Program Manager with Veteran and Military Family Services (VMFS), a Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) veteran specialty mental health program charged with assisting veterans and their families in need.

Tran was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States as a refugee with her family at the age of ten. Many of her relatives are veterans of the Vietnamese armed forces and served in the Vietnam War.

Her first job as a clinician was at the nonprofit Special Service for Groups working in their Assertive Community Treatment, an intensive field-based program servicing severely mentally ill individuals in boarding and care and inpatient hospitals.

After joining DMH in 2004, Tran continued to work in extreme settings as Project Manager for Project 50 supervising a 13-person team of psychiatrists, nurses, substance abuse and housing counselors on the city’s notorious Skid Row.

Eight years later, Tran was recruited to help start a DMH program called Veterans And Loved Ones Recovery (VALOR), a full-service, accredited program for all veterans, including those not eligible for federal benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
After a brief interlude at the Long Beach Mental Health Clinic overseeing Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement, she was asked to join Veteran Peer Access Network (now VMFS), a new program replacing VALOR. She was promoted to Program Manager in Spring 2020, at the beginning of the Covid pandemic.

Tran holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California at Irvine and a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California. She lives with her family in Laguna Beach, Calif.
