WE ARE
HOLLYWOOD 2.0
Community-Based care for our neighbors with severe
mental illness. Together we’re taking a stand.
Do you or someone you know need our support?
Hollywood 2.0 is a pilot program unlike any other in America inspired by the compassionate, community-based practices in Trieste, Italy, and realized by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and local homeless coalition Hollywood 4WRD. Together, we’re a team of factors, social workers, psychiatrists, case managers, nurses, and a vast network of community partners, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for people with severe mental illness in Hollywood.
HOLLYWOOD IS
READY FOR CHANGE
We’re not sweeping anything-or anyone-out of sight, out of mind. We’re not pointing fingers or giving up. Instead, we’re doing something different. Here in Hollywood, with stars in our eyes and on our streets, we know there’s a better way.
WE STAND WITH OUR MOST VULNERABLE NEIGHBORS
We bring specialized, holistic care for people with severe mental illness to help them regain stability and rebuild a sense of purpose within themselves, and the community.
WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF PERSISTENCE
Everyone’s story is complex and unique, and so is their journey to recovery. There’s no quick fix, but there is reason to hope. With patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication, lives are being transformed for the better.
we know our community is our strength
It’s on all of us—the next evolution of this legendary place we all love, and looking out for the people who call Hollywood home. Everything starts with “we.”

ABOUT US
“Hollywood 2.0” is a pilot program from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health—in collaboration with many community partners—that provides comprehensive, community-based care and services to people with severe mental illness in Hollywood. This revolutionary program champions holistic, highly personalized care to address individuals’ needs throughout their journey to recovery.
The inspiration for this innovative program came from Trieste, Italy, where people living with mental health conditions receive compassionate, community-centered care that encourages integration and minimizes isolation and stigma. After several visits to Trieste, a delegation of progressive LA leaders in the mental health, legal, and homelessness sectors were determined to bring this model of “radical hospitality” to an American community—specifically Hollywood, due to its high concentration of individuals experiencing homelessness and mental illness, and its reputation as a community passionate about bettering their iconic neighborhood.
Five years after conception, Hollywood 2.0 successfully launched in July 2022, thanks to the help of a robust coalition of public and private stakeholders invested in creating systemic change.
Today, in collaboration with our community partners, Hollywood 2.0 has created an ecosystem of care that spans the neighborhood, bringing together services that offer support for everything from housing and mental health treatment, to community building, social events, and employment opportunities. By providing a broad menu of essential resources and responsive services without the traditional barriers to access, we can meet people’s needs in real-time, provide the support of a team who knows the individual’s history and strengths, and decrease the need for more restrictive measures, like hospitalization.
The Hollywood 2.0 staff is made up of social workers, psychiatrists, case workers, nurses, and community members, each dedicated to helping our most vulnerable neighbors get into safe housing, regain stability, fulfill their goals, and reestablish their place in the community.
Consistent with the Trieste model, the program was built on the premise that individuals living with serious mental illness, especially those who are also experiencing homelessness, have the right to a whole and full life. Therefore, Hollywood 2.0 provides opportunities for people to cultivate the three P’s: a community of People who provide care and support, a Place to call home, and a life with Purpose, meaning, and joy. This approach to wellness places community, purpose, and self-empowerment at the center of our care.
While Hollywood 2.0 supports the LA County Department of Mental Health’s goal of recovery-oriented care, we also recognize that the non-linear course of mental illness means that treatment is only one aspect. We measure a person’s level of recovery, not just their reduction in symptoms, as a barometer for wellness. Recognizing their place on the journey to recovery helps us provide individuals a range of opportunities to develop or deepen community belonging, acquire skills, and participate in meaningful activities (like employment, school, volunteering) regardless of their level of functioning.
As the only program of its kind in the US, Hollywood 2.0 will become a model of care to show communities across the country that while the state of homeless- ness and mental health may be overwhelming, recovery is possible.
As our program evolves and expands, we intend to restore trust in the community and bring a renewed sense of hope to Hollywood, block by block, person by person.
