Men’s Health Awareness and Family Funday

Men's Health Awareness and Family Funday

The Men’s Health Awareness & Family Funday began with one simple truth: Men and fathers need more support — emotionally, mentally, and socially — to sustain their wellbeing and stability.

Families asked for a space where men could talk openly, heal, and grow. In response, Service Area 7, which serves communities across Southeast Los Angeles, created the Men’s Emotional Support Network (M.E.N.). It’s the first support group of its kind developed by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, specifically for men and fathers in this community.

What began as a small circle of men sharing their stories soon became a powerful community of healing, accountability, and transformation. As the M.E.N. group grew, participants and their families felt a new calling: Expand awareness, reduce stigma, and share success with the broader community. This collective vision sparked the creation of the 1st Annual Men’s Health Awareness and Family Funday, a free public event designed to bring families together, highlight mental health resources, and celebrate the strength of men in our communities. The event quickly became a cornerstone of Service Area 7’s community engagement efforts.

Now in its 4th edition, the event continues to grow. It has brought together thousands of residents and dozens of providers with a shared commitment to men’s health, emotional wellbeing, and family unity.
