On Thursday, October 25, 2012, the 12th Annual Gero-Psychiatric Breakfast, entitled Consultation Across the Chasms: Considerations for Integrating Behavioral and Physical Health for Older Adults, took place at Our Lady of Angels Church in downtown Los Angeles.  The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) co-hosted the event with HealthNet.

This year’s breakfast featured presentations and panel discussions on collaborative care and consultation for older adults with considerations for integrating behavioral and physical health.

“Gero-psychiatry is critical for our department.  That’s why this event is important every year,” said LACDMH Medical Director Roderick Shaner, M.D.  “Gero-psychiatry represents the pioneering efforts in the integration of health and mental health.”

The morning training also featured updates on Health Information Technology, web-based strategies for improved access to specialty care and information on issues faced by the geriatric patient population.

The panels and presentations were led by Ricardo Mendoza, M.D., Robert Myers, Ph.D., Carlotta Childs-Seagle, L.C.S.W., Kathleen Kerrigan, L.C.S.W., Sarah Gelberd, M.D., Roderick Shaner, M.D., Lakshmi Dhanvanthari, M.D., Robert Burchuk, M.D., and Juana Infante, A.S.W.
