Suicide Prevention Summit
On September the 7th, 2011 the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health hosted for the first time "Saving Lives: Suicide Prevention Summit." The Summit took place in concert with National Suicide Prevention Week to bring attention to Los Angeles County’s efforts as a part of State and National Strategies to prevent suicide. The objective of the summit was to increase awareness about suicide prevention, intervention and postvention among high priority populations such as youth, college students, veterans and survivors.
Funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), the Suicide Prevention Summit brought together well known experts from mental health, hospitals, education, law enforcement as well as advocates, providers, researchers and survivors to collaborate and chart a comprehensive strategy for suicide prevention over the next decade.
LACDMH is part of a countywide, multi-agency LAC Suicide Prevention Network that includes community partners such as the Department of Public Health, Department of Children and Family Services, ICAN, LA County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force, Los Angeles City Fire Department, police departments, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Glendale Adventist Support Group, LAUSD, community colleges, UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, Pacific Clinics, Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center, Teen Line, the Trevor Project, Suicide Prevention Advocacy Network, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The mission of the network is to “promote public and professional awareness, education, training, and engagement regarding suicide and suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention in Los Angeles County.”
All presentations are on powerpoint and available to download.
